Sunnybank Lodge is located on the grounds of Sunnybank House (which is also on our site), within one minutes walk to the Clifden town centre, it sits on Church Hill over-looking the town, yet affords adequate privacy. It is a newly-built residence combining modern luxury with period style ambient décor.
On entering the main open-plan living and dining room area, the
attention to detail is immediately evident. The combination of the taupe painted
reclaimed boards which clad the walls, Connemara pure wool curtains (throughout
the house) and oak smoked solid wood floors (throughout the house) together with
a large open fire place create a sumptuous and warm space. Two large handmade
sofa’s and an antique dining room table and chairs along with tastefully chosen
other pieces put the finishing touches to this room. French doors lead from the
dining section out into the outside patio (pea gravel) and barbecue area.
The kitchen also shares part of this room, with a natural stone wall backdrop, cashmere white granite counter top, light avocado shaker cabinets and stainless steel appliances (Microwave, dishwasher, hob, self cleaning oven, two integrated fridges and one freezer etc). It combines warmth and character with tasteful efficiency. Off the kitchen there is a small utility with washing machine and tumble dryer.
There is a door off the dining area into the downstairs bedroom. An inlayed French bed (standard double), dressing table and chair, standard lamp and large storage and wardrobe space create a slightly continental look in our first bedroom. The en-suite has a large wall to wall mirror over the sink and the mixture of teak shelves, light grey walls and the warm clay olive and taupe tiles together with the designer bathroom ware gives all the bathrooms a contemporary but warm look. This bathroom has a shower over bath.
The three other bedrooms are upstairs, the first of which
is the master bedroom, this gracious room has 11 foot painted wooden
ceilings which allow for a handmade chandelier, the walls are a combination
of taupe’s and cream’s and the oak floor is warmed with sheep skin rugs.
Relaxing on the King size (6 foot wide) painted four poster beds you can
admire the reclaimed open fireplace which when lit would tempt you never to
leave the bedroom. The en-suite has a walk in shower and a large bath
fringed with fired earth olive tiles and the antique mirror over the bath
adds warmth.
The third bedroom although not as large as the other bedrooms, I feel has great character, achieved primarily by an original cast iron bed ( standard double) and a similar colour scheme as the others. It has an en-suite with walk in shower. The final room replicates the master bedroom in size, again a high ceiling with chandelier, a large zip and link bed (large double or twin), open fireplace, carefully selected period furniture, a very large framed print over the bed combine to create a splendid room. The en-suite has a walk in shower; one of the walls of the shower has a large glass panel containing a seascape of local beach stone and seaweed.
The entire cottage has under-floor heating and can be thermostatically controlled from each room. There is a pressurized water system. It is wired for both 220 and 110 electricity so you don't have to bring an adapter with you if you are travelling from another country. There is a flat screen television with NTL Cable TV, linked to a surround sound cinema and music system. Internet Access (DSL broadband) is now available throughout the lodge and offered free of charge for the duration of your rental.
Children, of course, are warmly welcomed here. Unfortunately, we cannot allow animals on the premises.
Your stay also includes access to The Station House Leisure Centre, which has a Pool, Sauna, Steam-room, Jacuzzi, Gym and Beauty Salon.
Heat and electricity are metered and paid for at the end of your stay.
Great effort has been made to create a property with all the comforts of modern day living combined with a unique atmosphere that can only be achieved from period homes. The Owners live nearby and will be on hand to meet you on arrival, and get you settled in.
